The Salt Mine is your local charity, leading the way in homelessness prevention and homeless aid. For almost 40 years, The Salt Mine has ensured our community thrives by offering food resources to all of our neighbors in a way that is helpful to our entire community.
In our efforts to keep our neighbors fed in the best way possible, we have developed relationships with the City of Lincoln, Placer County, and various homeless resources. We are thankful for these connections, because they allow our unhoused neighbors to have even more options available when they are ready to transition to stable housing. When they are willing to take that step, The Salt Mine is here to guide them in that process and connect them to the resources available in our community.
Throughout the years, a number of people in Lincoln who were once homeless are no longer in that situation. We are thankful that we were able to offer immediate help for those individuals when they needed it. You can read more about our specific homeless services below and click the donate button to ensure these services continue.
Shower Services
Unhoused clients can receive a shower Tuesday-Friday from 9-11 am.
Laundry Services
Unhoused clients can receive laundry services Tuesday-Friday from 9-11 am.
Clothing Services
Unhoused clients can exchange their old clothing for new clothing once a month. This is to keep our streets and creek clean, in partnership with the City of Lincoln. In rainy and cold seasons, we are able to offer whatever clothing is necessary to keep our unhoused neighbors safe and warm.Â
Daypack Services
Unhoused clients can receive Daypacks Tuesday-Friday from 9 am-12 pm and Saturday from 9-11 am. Daypacks are food bags crafted for the specific needs of our unhoused neighbors. They are easy to carry and made to last one day, which helps keep the creek clean from unnecessary trash and boxes. Many of our unhoused clients return every day to receive Daypacks, and some visit once a week for Daypacks.
General Care and Assistance
William Jessup University is now sending nursing students and nurses to our facility once a week to offer assistance and general care.
Outside Resources
We are able to connect our unhoused clients with Placer County social services and the Homeless Helpline. We are also able to offer bus fare to the social services office if they need to take care of things in person.Â
County Representatives
When we connect an unhoused client to a Placer County social worker, they often meet at our facility during open hours.Â
Community Service
When our unhoused clients transition to stable housing, some programs require them to fulfill community service hours. We partner with the City of Lincoln and Placer County to be a place where they can fulfill community service hours if necessary.Â
The Salt Mine Thrift Store
In certain circumstances, we are able to offer limited necessary household items to those displaced from their homes. In the past, we have helped fire victims and immigrants from Ukraine.Â
We can only offer these services to our neighbors because of your financial support. These services are a result of our generous donors giving back to our local community. Donate today by making a one-time or recurring donation to help our neighbors thrive. Your donations allow us to give exceptional care to our community, and we cannot continue serving our neighbors without you. Thank you for your constant support!
