Summer 2026 Recap

The Salt Mine has had a busy summer with many highs and lows. The most important part of the summer is that our neighbors who needed help, received it generously! The care and compassion of our community, which is expressed in your support, is what keeps the good work at The Salt Mine going.

At The Salt Mine Food Closet, from June 1st to August 31st, we helped 11,332 families (duplicated). We also processed and gave away over 200,000lbs of fresh food and 50,000lbs of non-perishable food. We provided changes of clothes, daily food packs, and showers to the homeless. We helped connect individuals and families with social services

and other community resources to improve their circumstances. Two longtime homeless neighbors finally decided to say, “Yes” to transitioning into stable housing and work situations and have taken the first steps toward that end. The Salt Mine provided families, children and seniors with a helping hand, a friendly face, and a level of care representative of our generous community.

So much work was done, and so many needs were met but not without many hurdles. Our walk-in freezer, fridge and AC unit all needed extensive repair. Along with our commercial ice maker breathing its last and a swath of other unwanted surprises, this summer cost us more than the price of food and general operation. While we did make it through, we are asking for your help as we begin to round the corner and head for the holiday season. A monetary gift today will ensure that the good work of feeding families will continue to happen and place The Salt Mine in a stronger position going into the next season.
