Helping Our Senior Neighbors

Dear friends of The Salt Mine,

We are glad to help any of our neighbors who need it and your support goes directly to those it will help the most. Among the many demographics represented at The Salt Mine, seniors aged 55+ are one of the largest and growing groups. The Salt Mine received 43,853 requests for help in 2025 with about 30% of the requests coming from our senior neighbors. In 2025 we assisted 1166 unique seniors, with most requesting help multiple times a month. While our overall numbers in 2025 closely resemble 2024’s stats, the number of unique seniors served increased just under 10%.

This work could not happen without the support of our community. We are glad to highlight the support of The Lincoln Hills Foundation as a shinning example of what it looks like to meet the needs of those who are struggling. The Lincoln Hills Foundation (LHF) focuses solely on helping seniors in our community and their efforts have made a sizable impact. They have provided The Salt Mine with a unique grant, allowing us to purchase monthly allotments of Ensure Meal Supplement Drinks specifically for our seniors. Lincoln Hills Foundation has eagerly searched out ways to make the biggest impact. Knowing that The Salt Mine has direct access to those in need and the distribution mechanisms to effectively help our neighbors, LHF chose to partner with The Salt Mine to guarantee our seniors have access to their most requested/needed food item. Everyday our senior neighbors thank us (and indirectly all of our supporters) for the generous help they receive.

Many seniors find themselves in precarious financial situations. Most are living on fixed incomes that are slow to adjust or adjust insufficiently to the current economic realities they face. Seniors also tend to face many more unforeseen circumstances with health, family and sudden emergencies happening more frequently at this stage of life. Your support and that of Lincoln Hills Foundation alike give hope and relieve anxiety from those struggling today.
