Dear friends of The Salt Mine,
For 40 years, The Salt Mine has relied entirely on private donations to serve our community in Lincoln and Sheridan, California. Your support has empowered our neighbors in need to thrive during their most difficult times. Every dollar you give directly transforms lives, delivering tangible and immediate help to those who need it most.
Here’s just one example of how your donation makes an impact:

Meet Stephen, whose family found hope through The Salt Mine during a desperate time. In 2009, Stephen was a high school student facing hardship alongside his siblings. His mom was unable to work, his step-dad had been laid off for the third time, and their income was sporadic at best.
Their budget was razor-thin, and they often didn’t know where their next meal would come from. Stephen resorted to eating just peanut butter when bread and other staples ran out, stretching clothes to make them fit, and taping his shoes together as holes wore through. A neighbor told them about The Salt Mine, and though Stephen’s parents arrived feeling uneasy and embarrassed, they were met with kindness and generosity that changed everything. Stephen calls this moment a turning point in his life—not because their problems were solved overnight, but because The Salt Mine’s support gave them the relief they needed to regain their footing over the next year. Today, that once struggling family is thriving. Stephen’s parents now own their own home, one sibling runs a growing business, and another just earned her master’s degree. You may know Stephen as our Food Closet’s Director of Operations. He often shares his story to show the vital impact of The Salt Mine, saying, “My story isn’t one of me pulling myself up by my bootstraps, but of a community dedicated to the thriving and well-being of others.” He adds, “Donors to The Salt Mine share in the success of my life and they will continue to play a vital role in those who receive help from The Salt Mine.”
Your generosity makes stories like Stephen’s possible. Every day, families in our community face moments of struggle as they search for help. We urgently need your financial support so the Food Closet can keep saying “yes” to every request for help. Be a part of someone’s story and show the same kindness displayed in Stephen’s life by giving to The Salt Mine today. Whether in the form of a one-time gift or a recurring donation, our community is extremely grateful for your support.
Our goal is $4,000 in new, recurring monthly donations and $40,000 in one-time gifts to meet our summer financial needs. We are counting on you to keep this work going. Please consider giving today and making a difference in the lives of our neighbors!

Blessings,
Eric Long, President of The Salt Mine
