Last week, as it became clear that Snap (CalFresh) Benefits would be delayed, we saw a 40% increase in requests for help from our neighbors. This is a huge increase in such a short amount of time, showing just how many of our neighbors rely on government support. That’s why we are committed to answering every request for help, especially when government support is not readily available. We do not expect to see a decrease in the needs of our neighbors this week. Our community is relying on your support to get through this difficult time! Every dollar you donate ensures that our neighbors have the food resources they need to weather financial hardship.

This 40% increase in need is coming right at the start of the holiday months, placing extra strain on the food resources we have available at the Food Closet. Holiday Boxes require a great deal of extra resources, and we hope we will have enough food to support every local family who requests help. The Salt Mine can only provide fresh food to local families because of your generosity. Holiday Box signups are now live on our website, and after just four days of being open and hundreds of applicants, it is clear that we need your help now more than ever before.
